About this aircraft
This aircraft is a well-documented, lovingly maintained example of one of postwar general aviation’s most iconic designs. The Cessna 120, introduced in 1946, offered light aircraft enthusiasts an affordable, simple, and robust entry into powered flight, combining classic tailwheel handling with proven Continental engines. Sharing its airframe with the Cessna 140—but omitting flaps and an electrical system in its original form—the 120 is prized today for its light control feel and vintage aesthetics. Over time, many examples, including N2106V, have been updated with modern conveniences, making them ideal weekend flyers and popular attractions at vintage aviation events.
N2106V, serial number 14627, left the Cessna Aircraft Company factory in Wichita, Kansas in early 1948, painted in red and originally outfitted with a cabin heater, McCauley propeller, and recording tachometer. It completed its pre-delivery test flight on March 30, 1948. The aircraft’s history since then is exceptionally well-documented and reflects a lifetime of conscientious stewardship.
Through the 1950s and 60s, the aircraft underwent a range of upgrades and maintenance events including the installation of a Hallicrafter CA-2 radio transceiver, Grimes landing light, Pioneer turn and bank indicator, Pyrene fire extinguisher, and Cleveland wheels and brakes. A series of periodic inspections and airframe improvements were carried out by Mastercraft Aviation Services and various certified repair stations.
Significantly, the original Continental C-85-12F engine was overhauled and later replaced with a Continental C-90-12F, and ultimately upgraded to a Continental O-200-A engine under an approved Supplemental Type Certificate in 1969. This upgrade brings enhanced reliability and performance while remaining within the classic airframe's flight characteristics.
The airframe received major fuselage repairs and skin replacements in the early 1960s, as well as the installation of a steerable Scott 3200 tailwheel, wheel pants, and multiple avionics improvements over the decades including a VTR 11B unit, Narco Comm/Nav radios, and a Cessna Nav-Comm 300. A revised weight and balance schedule was completed in 1979, with subsequent updates through the 1980s and 90s as new equipment was installed or removed.
In more recent years, N2106V was imported to the UK and underwent a zero-timed engine overhaul by Isenberg in 2009. Since that overhaul, the aircraft has flown only approximately 430 hours, making it a particularly attractive option for buyers seeking a well-maintained vintage taildragger with low engine time.
Today, N2106V presents as a classic aircraft with deep historical roots, upgraded systems, and solid performance. It is ideally suited to recreational flying, tailwheel training, or classic aircraft gatherings. It offers a rare chance to own a storied piece of aviation heritage, blending authenticity with practical updates and well-documented care.
